The Vienna fair starts under a new brand – Diepresse.com
With the new ViECON brand, Vienna is targeting the congress and conference location- and relies on knowledge transfer and economic effects.
At the beginning of the year, the city of Vienna successfully took over the Vienna trade fair and thus brought the operational company back into its own hands. The operator, Wiener Messe und Congress GmbH, a company of Vienna Holding, is now active under the brand name Viecon – Vienna Congress & Convention Center International. Rebranding underlines the strategic focus on congresses and conferences as a growth driver – without losing sight of the central role of trade fairs as a proven foundation of the Venue.
Strong economic factor
With the takeover of the Vienna Messe, the city of Vienna pursues a clear strategy: strengthening the trade fair and congress location sustainably and keeping internationally competitive. The congress and conference sector is an important economic factor for Vienna. Congress guests leave an average of 550 euros per day in the city and thus contribute significantly to local added value. This benefits in particular to the catering, hotel industry and the service sector.

Viecon has already secured numerous events for 2025, including five major congresses such as the annual congress of the European Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID).
« The already fixed conferences at Messe Vienna alone provide more than 350,000 overnight stays this year, » emphasizes Oliver Stribl, Managing Director of Vienna Holding, the economic importance: « Every euro that we invest here generates fifteen euros in added value. This shows how important the conference industry is for Vienna, » says Stribl.
First class program 2025
In spring, Ehra 2025 set the first highlight of the top -class congress program. The annual meeting of the European Heart Rhythm Association presents the latest developments in research on cardiac arrhythmia and is certified as a green meeting.
After that, Escmid brings Global together as the world’s leading congress in the field of infectious diseases from all over the world before the ISEV Annual Meeting devotes itself to research on extracellular vesicles. Among the other medical highlights of the year is the ESTRO 2025, with a focus on ray uncology and the European 2025, which all about periodontology and implantology. In autumn, the EASD 2025, which is dedicated to the latest findings in diabetes research, focuses on the European Emergency Medicine Congress (Eusem), innovations and best practice in emergency medicine, and organic Europe, a central platform for biotechnology and medical innovation.

Events such as the TechConference by Microsoft transform Viecon into an innovation hub for AI, security and infrastructure. Vienna Messe DieLs such as the Vienna Ferien Mass and the Wohnen & Interior in spring as well as the Book Vienna and the Viecc Vienna Comic Con in autumn, to name just a few, show the variety of topics and the flexibility that Venue has to offer. For the first time, both the AStA River Cruise Expo, a specialist conference of the American Society of Travel Advisors on the subject of river cruises – as well as the best – Austria’s largest trade fair for vocational orientation.
Knowledge transfer in focus
Congresses, trade fairs and events not only bring guests to Vienna, but also valuable knowledge that the city shapes sustainably. With Viecon as a central platform for national and international events, the knowledge transfer is actively promoted. Due to the close networking of organizers, research institutions and the city, impulses from the events flow directly into the further development of Vienna – be it in the areas of sustainability, digitization or mobility. A strong congress city is also a guarantee for a sustainable city of Vienna.
