The veteran first danced on prostheses along with his beloved

For the first time after a serious injury, the military who lost both legs on the front went to the parquet.

Together with his wife, they performed a dance under a song that was heard at their wedding, told at the UNBROKEN rehabilitation center.

36-year-old Lviv resident Alexander Zhavnenko has been dancing since childhood. It was on the parquet that he met his future wife Marichka. They danced together in the People’s Ensemble « Dream ».

From the first day of a full -scale invasion, Alexander assisted the defense forces as a volunteer. When his wife Marichka gave birth to a firstborn, the husband mobilized to the ranks of the 12th Special Purpose Brigade of NSU « Azov ». He was the drone operator.

Exactly a year, in October 2024, Alexander lost both lower extremities.

« As soon as I was injured, Marichka immediately came to me in the Dnieper with a little laziness in her arms. It was a great surprise. She supported me and said: we will definitely be on my feet and we will dance together, » – remembers the defender.

After the injury, the couple performed her first dance in the Lviv House of Scientists for the same song that she was heard at their wedding.

« I didn’t know what to expect from this dance … But I liked it! Nothing hurt, nothing pressed – unlike everyday life, when even in the kitchen it is difficult to move. And here … I did what I love. – Alexander shares.
