Kristófer Dadi Davíðsson, Maren Eir Halldórsdóttir and Eva María Jónsdóttir are police studies in the first year.

Old dream to come true

What made these young people from the West decided to submit police science?

Kristófer is the first to answer. He says he wanted to be a cop when he was in childhood, but after college, he did not quite know what to do and found it exciting to test the studies in police studies.

« It’s still fun, so you are still in it, » he says.

Maren says he has always intended to be cops.

« I was only 5 years old in the store with my mom when I saw the cops. I said I immediately was going to be cops and have just stood there. »

She decided to go to the ambulance school after the student’s degree and graduated as an ambulance in May.

« After that, I decided to go to the cops. It was always the plan. »

Eva Maria joined the police in the West in May last year. Then she had submitted an application for school accommodation and had completed an entrance exam.

« This is one of the most fun things I’ve ever done.

It’s just always fun at work and I’ve never experienced such a positive attitude at work. I’m always pepper for every day, ”says Eva Maria.

Good to have experienced the job

She says it is a good opportunity to have experienced the police work as an acting police officer before joining the police education.

« I am no better learned than someone else who is here, but maybe you realize the situation better when you know how this is in real life. »

Maren joined the police in the capital area in January. Of course, she says she does not know as much as those who are already educated, but still learn an incredible amount of work, which benefits her in police studies.

Kristófer, on the other hand, says he has come completely green into the program.

« But I have a job with the police in the West and start this summer. I am very excited to start. »

He says he has to some extent found that he has no experience of police work when he began his studies.

« Especially in the first semester. So time passes and people become more peer, » he says.

Akureyri a little like abroad

Eva Maria explains the structure of the study for a journalist. This is a two -year distance education, with one local race taking place in Akureyri per semester as well as three cycles in the vocational program in Reykjavik.

« In Akureyri, each group finds a property and there is a lot of social life around this. You feel a little like you are going abroad when you go to Akureyri.

Maren says that in the literary study, communication and communication related to studies are much more involved, but in Reykjavik there is more practical and it examines how the police officer’s work is actually.

Kristófer specifically recalls the realistic projects.

« When teachers, for example, are playing counterparties in some certain situations. You learn a lot about it. Likewise, you can go over the issues and think what you could have done better. »

« Most fun is also just the people you get to know, » says Maren. « You get so close to everyone, there are really good guys here and I am very grateful for the group. It’s very fun to meet and meet everyone. »

Good to get from the phone

She tells the kids in the group rather different than the group get along well. « It’s just everyone’s beats, » she says, smiling out of her ears.

She then mentions a special phone compartment, but in the morning the police students put their phones in a special compartment. « You are somehow just here, » says Maren.

Eva Maria also mentions the phone compartments and says they are incredibly positive. « It’s so good to get away from the phone and just enjoy people. »

She says she has never been in such a wonderful study. It is so positive to be in practical against the literary but not just always be in the classroom for legal time or something.

Kristófer mentions the use of force. She finds him very fun.

Eva María explains that the police studies are spending time in force. They also exercise in bullet simulators and learn to deal with weapons, both to keep weapons and learn to use it. « Then we go over the arrests. »

Do not need to be panic

She says a common misunderstanding that there must be panic with arrest. It is not at all. Capture is more about the act of depriving someone with instructions. For example, it is important to present their arrested legal status.

Do you not think about the dangers of the job and that there is more and more hardness in society?

Kristof says he doesn’t think much about this. Of course, I’m just out on land and there is nothing much of it there, he says, laughing.

Then he adds that the job is very much in confidence with the colleagues and so of course they are taught the use of force and everything is well reviewed to ensure their safety.

Maren accepts the words of Christ. « You can’t think of it that way. You can’t be afraid of it if you are going to work on it. You always have someone with you and never be on the ground.

You can’t be afraid of everything if you are going to be in this, she says. You also get psychological assistance, talk to the companies and have this social support, ”she says.

Eva Maria is on a similar note. Always claim to feel good at work because she works with very good people she can count on and they always exist.

« You are somehow never insecure because the partners are very good and comforting, » says Eva.

A challenging but rewarding job

« The job can be challenging and difficult too, but it just gives people a wider back, » says Kristófer.

« First and foremost, the job is still rewarding. Being able to help people and be in the workplace where you are not always doing the same endlessly. A great variety fascinates me a little. »

Eva Maria adds that it is very positive to work on shifts in the cops.

« If we have a few hours in the watch. I practice crossfit and it is not a little positive to be able to jump and get out for an hour.

You may not be able to do this for work, but then you get a little outlet and you are quite ready for the day. «

Have you wondered what you want to do in the cops? How do you want to be?

« I want to try a lot. I want to try working on land and maybe also in town or for example in the Suðurnes or something, » says Kristófer.

Maren says she is trying to find in which department she wants to work but has not decided it.

« You just try to find yourself in everything and then you decide in the future what you want to do. »

« I feel very good at the police in the West, » says Eva Maria, and says she wants to stay there if possible, « but you never know what will happen in the future.

In the last semester, you choose a station to work with. I’m going to choose to be here in the capital area, ”says Eva María Jónsdóttir, a student in police studies, but until then she will be working with the police in the West, such as Kristófer Dadi her schoolmate, but Maren Eir will remain in Reykjavik.

If everything goes according to wishes, they graduate from police science in the spring of 2026.
