The USA is no longer a reliable partner for most Luxembourgers

Under the new US President Donald Trump, confidence in the United States is also crumbling in this country. Eight out of ten Luxembourgers no longer consider the United States to be a reliable partner. This emerges from a new survey by TNS Ilres on behalf of RTL. Only eight percent of the respondents stated that the United States was still a reliable partner, twelve percent do not know.

The opinion of higher defense spending is also clear. According to this, 73 percent advocate that Luxembourg will spend more money on his defense, 19 percent are against it, eight percent do not know.

Support for Ukraine is to be continued

After all, 63 percent of all respondents fear a Russian attack on a Member State of the EU or NATO in the coming years. 24 percent reject this statement, 13 percent do not know. However, younger people in particular seem to be afraid of a possible attack, because the 18- to 34-year-olds state 73 percent of the participants to fear an attack in Russia in the coming years.

A large majority of 70 percent, however, would like Luxembourg to continue to support Ukraine. 45 percent of all respondents believe that the Grand Duchy should provide both military and financial support. 17 percent only want financial support for Ukraine, nine percent only want military support. 20 percent of all respondents want to end the Luxembourg support for Ukraine, ten percent do not know.

However, the results are less clear when it comes to whether Luxembourg should send its own peace troops to Ukraine. Just more than half of all respondents, 52 percent, speak for this. However, 33 percent of the participants, i.e. a third, rejects that Luxembourg should send their own soldiers to Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement. 15 percent do not know.
