US Presidential Administration Donald Trump is considering withdrawing several thousand US troops from South Korea and moving them to other places in the Indo-Pacific, including GUAM.

Details: According to WSJ, the possibility of withdrawal of about 4,500 people – parts 28,500 servicemen of the US Armed Forces in Korea (USFK) is considered.

Yonhap notes that such a step can exacerbate security in South Korea against the background of constant North Korean threats.

This issue is being prepared for President Trump in the framework of an informal revision of North Korea policy. At the same time, the decision has not yet been made and is among a number of options that discuss high -ranking officials.

The Pentagon spokesman informed Yonhap that there are currently no messages about any probable reduction of USFK troops.

WSJ reminds that from the first presidential term, Trump has repeatedly declared his intention to review the US military presence in Korea. However, in April this year, US military leaders in Asia warned Congress of reducing strength, calling it a risk in the context of counteraction to North Korea, China and Russia.
