The University of Pernik wants to meet his Nigerian students with Minister Valchev
The accusations of the European Polytechnic University in Pernik that serve as a channel for migrants are slander. The university is ready to meet its Nigerian students with education minister Krasimir Valchev to tell him more about the learning process. This is stated in the university position in response to Valchev's statement, in which he claims that the university's educational process is fictitious and the higher education institution acts as a migrant channel.
The Minister of Education made his statement last week during a meeting of the line parliamentary committee. According to Valchev, the Ministry of Education has reported that for several years at the European Polytechnic University, known as the University of Pernik, there is no real learning process. In confirmation, the minister also stated how low the monthly bills of the school are – about BGN 50 per current in the summer and about BGN 100 in the winter. Water consumption is 9 cubes a year.
According to him, foreign students at the university are mainly from Nigeria, with only 10% of them the ministry reports that they have resided in Bulgaria. He also said that inspections from the ministry were expelled from the university.

The chairman of the National Agency for Assessment and Accreditation (NEAA), Prof. Eliza Stefanova, added that the accreditation of the university was withdrawn once in 2017, but was then returned. The university is now in the process of institutional accreditation.

According to the Higher Education Act, higher education institutions receive accreditation from the National Agency for Assessment and Accreditation. The Agency is a body for evaluation, accreditation and quality control of the Council of Ministers. Accreditation is a recognition by the Agency of Higher Schools to provide higher education in educational and qualification degrees in certain fields, professional fields and in the specialties of the regulated professions.
In the position, the university states that the minister was misled in order to take away the accreditation of the higher education institution. From there, they explain that the university has successfully passed the first phase of the accreditation renewal procedure. They added that last September an expert group consisting of Prof. Ilian Lilov, Head of the Group, Prof. Mira Zafirova, Assoc. Prof. Andrei Bogdanov, Assoc. Andrey Boroy and Prof. Anna Stoynova, observing the procedure from the National Agency for Assessment and Accreditation (NAA), was to be visited.
The position states that at the end of the year the higher education institution received feedback from the expert group, according to which the on -site inspection has passed successfully.

The higher education institution says that within the last five years the university has accepted a total of 33 students of Nigerian descent, and this number has been distributed over the years. Most of them – nearly 90%, live in Sofia, and travel to attend classes.

From there, they also say that all non-European candidates who are not from the European Union are pre-undergoing inspections and procedures by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and « in this regard the university does not have the competence to judge beyond that for the compulsory set for application documents ».
It is also stated that the university is not entitled to impede students on the basis of religious, ethnic and racial signs. The higher education institutes are trained by students from more than ten nationalities.
In response to Valchev's statement that the university's accounts are extremely low, the university declared their willingness to show documents for the bills and that the amounts of BGN 50 and BGN 100 were only for the security room, which also has a bathroom.

The university also denies the claim that there are no teachers and administrative staff in the higher education institution.
