The University of Bucharest boasts a premiere


The University of Bucharest (UB) is the first higher education institution in Romania and in the world 93, according to Times Higer Education Impact Rankings 2025, one of the most popular rankings in the international academic space, which evaluates the universities with the highest involvement in specific activities of sustainable development.

It is for the first time that a university in Romania is in the first 100 universities in the general Times Higer Education Impact Rankings 2025 ranking.

‘At the national level, of the 25 universities included in the standings, the University of Bucharest, which is in the first place, is followed by three member universities of the University Consortium: the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest (201-300),’ Babeș-Bolyai ‘University of Cluj-Napoca (401-600) and’ Lucian Blaga ‘) the institution of higher education in a statement sent to the press.

The criteria according to which the higher education institutions are evaluated in this ranking are based on the 17 sustainable development objectives of the United Nations (UN) included in the 2030 agenda.

For this year’s edition, the University of Bucharest reported for 9 of the 17 objectives. In the case of seven of the nine reported objectives, the University of Bucharest is in the first position at national level. These are ‘Objective 4 – quality education’, ‘Objective 5 – gender equality’, ‘Objective 8 – Decent work and economic growth’, ‘Objective 10 – low inequalities’,’ Objective 11 – Sustainable cities and communities, ‘Objective 16 – peace, justice and efficient institutions’. To these are added ‘Objective 17 – partnerships for achieving objectives’, where the results of universities in Romania, displayed in alphabetical order, position the University of Bucharest and the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest on the first place at national level and between 101 – 200 internationally.

The best score obtained by the University of Bucharest is for ‘Objective 5 – gender equality’, where, according to Times Higer Education Impact Rankings 2025, the institution ranks 3rd worldwide.

‘This exceptional position in the top 100 world at the general level for involvement in sustainable development activities and top 3 equality reconfirms the mission of the University of Bucharest to be a space of excellence, inclusion and social responsibility. It is a recognition of the sustained efforts of the entire academic community and an encouragement to continue through education and research, the construction of a sustainable future for the Romanian society and for the whole world, « said the rector of the University of Bucharest, Marian Preda, quoted in the press release.

Also, the University of Bucharest is among the first 25 universities in the world for ‘Objective 4 – quality education’ and between the first 36 universities in the world for ‘Objective 16 – Peace, Justice and Effective Institutions’.

‘Objective 11 – Sustainable cities and communities’ positions the University of Bucharest among the first 83 universities in the world, while for ‘objective 8 – decent work and economic growth’, the University of Bucharest is located in the Times Higer Education Rankings 2025 ranking in position 84.

Last but not least, the University of Bucharest is located between 101 and 200 for ‘Objective 1-without poverty’, between 301-400, together with the ‘Babeș-Bolyai’ University of Cluj-Napoca, for ‘Objective 10-low inequalities’ and between 401-600, for’ Objective 3-health and well-being.

According to a statement sent to AGERPRES, the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest rises on the place 201-300 in the ‘Times Higer Education Impact Rankings 2025’ ranking, released on Wednesday.

ASE ranks 201-300, globally, compared to 401-600 in the 2024 edition. The 2025 ranking includes 2,318 universities around the world. ASE gets a score of 80.1 points out of 100, positioning themselves on the second place at national level, of the 25 universities in Romania present in the standings.
