BRATISLAVA. Slovakia will ask for a meeting of the European Union ministers to postpone a vote on another package of anti -Russian sanctions.

« I asked the Minister of Foreign Affairs to officially ask a meeting of foreign ministers, postpone negotiations on these sanctions until the so -called repowering problem is not solved, that is, the stopping of gas flow, oil and nuclear fuel from the Russian Federation to Europe, » Fico said.
Thus, the government wants to use the vote on sanctions, which must be approved unanimously, to claim concessions for Slovakia at an agreement to terminate the import of Russian energies, which should be received by the majority and Slovakia is likely to be declared.
The Prime Minister again drew attention to the risks associated with the rejection of Russian energies. « We ask, will there be enough gas for Slovakia? Do we have what guarantees that if there is little gas in Germany, in the Czech Republic that gas will come to us? » The problem is also an expected increase in prices for gas transport or a valid contract with the Russian Gazprom, which will expire only in 2035. The Prime Minister specified that in the case of oil, it is assumed that the limitations of the EU will not be voted on a qualified majority, but through sanctions where a unanimous decision is needed.
There is currently no proposal to limit the import of Russian nuclear fuel. But even in this case, Slovak nuclear reactors will not do without this fuel. Although we currently have relatively good fuel supplies in Slovakia, they are missed once, according to Fico and cannot be easily replaced.
