The unemployment rate in the Russian Federation, according to the results of the first quarter, decreased again
The unemployment rate in the Russian Federation, according to the results of the first quarter of this year, decreased again, which may indicate the weak influence of the hard monetary policy of the Central Bank on the cooling of the labor market through increasing the key rate.
Data on unemployment on April 30, as part of the report “Socio-economic situation of the Russian Federation”, was presented by Rosstat. According to the department, in March of this year, the unemployment rate in the Russian Federation amounted to 2.3%, dropping by 0.1 percentage points (p.) After an increase recorded in January -February. Unemployed in the classification of the International Labor Organization (did not have a work or profitable lesson, searched for work and were ready to start it in the examined week) were recognized as about 1.8 million people – 1.1 million of them are urban residents, 0.7 million – rural. The unemployment rate among rural residents (3.7%) exceeds the unemployment rate among urban (1.8%).
At the same time, the level of registered unemployment in the Russian Federation, which depends on the desire of people to register in this status, has not changed over the past three months and, according to the results of March, amounted to 0.3 million people. During March of this year, 60.8 thousand people received the status of unemployed, 33.7 thousand people were employed by employment services. The combined indicator of the employees of the unemployed was 13.4 thousand people, or 28.5%, less than in March 2024, since the number of applications for such a service was reduced.
It should be noted that the reduction in the unemployment rate in March may indicate a relatively insignificant influence on the labor market of the Central Bank – one of the reasons for the maintenance of such a tough monetary policy, the head of the Bank of Russia Elvira Nabiullina previously called the need to reduce the resources of companies to increase salaries and the creation of new vacancies.
Earlier, we recall, “Kommersant” recorded a reduction in the growth rate of the number of vacancies in the largest Russian online bases with an increasing number of resumes (more details See “Kommersant” from April 3). However, in March, employment increased again – by 0.2 p., Up to 74.1 million people. Its level also increased by 0.3 p. And amounted to 61.2%. At the same time, the most noticeable growth occurred in the category of workers employed under civil law contracts. In February of this year, there were more at 7.8 p. Compared with January, which, we note, may indicate the short -term surplus demand for labor: employers go to full hiring with less hunting than before.
