The UN investigation confirms that Russia has committed crimes against humanity / day in Ukraine

The new report of the UN Independent International Inquiry Commission on Ukraine, published online this week, will be officially submitted to the UN Human Rights Council next Tuesday.

The Commission concluded that the Russian authorities are guilty of the disappearance and torture of people. « Both crimes were committed as part of a broad and systematic attack on civilians and, according to a coordinated national policy, » the report states. Usually, UN investigators are not exactly in their statement.

The report states that a large number of civilians were detained in the territories under Russia. Many of them were then moved to prisons in the occupied Ukrainian territories or Russia.

During this long -term detention, the Russian authorities committed other violations and crimes, investigators concluded. « Many victims have disappeared without a message for months and years, and some of them died in captivity, » the report said. It also states that the Russian authorities have not systematically provided information on the location of the detainees.

Russia acted with the aim of removing missing people from the protection of the law, according to a report that prisoners of war have been tortured and become forced victims.

Russia « systematically used torture against certain categories of detainees to obtain information, press and intimidate, » concludes the investigation. The most brutal ways of torture were used during questioning, but the Russian authorities also « systematically used sexual violence as a way of torture against the detained men, » investigators.

The Commission also studied the increasing number of incidents when Russian soldiers killed or injured the captured Ukrainian soldiers, which is a war crime. « The testimony of soldiers deserting from the Russian armed forces shows that the policy is being implemented not to take prisoners, but instead kill them, » the report said.

It states that both warring parties have committed a war crime by killing or injured warriors using drones.

The report also sets out the human rights violations that the Ukrainian authorities have against people accused of cooperation with the occupiers.

Russia repeatedly invaded Ukraine in February 2022. In March of the same year, the UN Human Rights Council opened a high -level investigation into the crimes committed during the war.

The Commission emphasized the need to achieve justice and ensure that the violations and crime commiters be held liable.

The Commission noted that Ukraine had cooperated with investigators, but Russia did not recognize the work of the Commission and refused to cooperate.
