After some of the Ukrainian parliamentary members publicly discovered the details of the new agreement, it was criticized as an effort to deprive Kijiva control of Ukrainian natural resources and infrastructure. In addition, the new project includes not only rare earth metals but also gas and oil.

Mr Sviridenko emphasizes that the project received from the US actually reflects the legal position of the US Ministry of Finance. This is not the final version of the agreement and a summary of the positions of both parties.

That is why Ukraine now has to define its red lines and basic principles and send a delegation to Washington in technical conversations so that the final version of the document corresponds to Ukraine’s strategic interests and acceptable to both parties.
