The UK aims to strengthen the weapons industry! Is planning to build new ammunition factories

With a new strategy for defense the UK aims to strengthen the armaments industry and increase the production of ammunition. This step is also related to Russia’s war against Ukraine.

The UK plans to build at least six new factories for the production of weapons and explosives. The Ministry of Defense announced that the government intends to invest in this pound € 1.5 billion (about 1.8 billion euros). In addition, the military will buy up to 7,000 long -range weapons produced in the UK. The occupation of Ukraine by Russia has shown in a harsh way that an army is as strong as the industry behind it, said Defense Minister John Healey. Strengthening the army aims to intimidate opponents and make the place more secure and stronger.

Starmer: In focus willingness to fight

« We are in a world of growing threats, » Healey told the BBC. Therefore, the new defense strategy envisions an increase in British weapons production and aims to create « a production capacity of ammunition that is always available ». The new defense strategy aims to make the country « ready for war », British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told The Sun. « We will redo the British war willingness to the central purpose of our Armed Forces. » Due to increased tensions around the world the new strategy should serve as a « plan for strength and security in the coming decades, » Starmer said.

Protection costs will increase

The British prime minister had announced the increase in defense spending before his visit to US President Donald Trump in February. By 2027 the costs are expected to increase by 2.5 percent of the gross domestic product. So far they are about 2.3 percent. In the financial year 2023/24 53.9 billion pounds (about 63.9 billion euros) were invested.

A further increase to three percent is planned for 2029. Defense Minister Healey expects to spend three percent of Gross Domestic Product at 2034 at 2034. Healey told the BBC that there was no doubt that this would happen in the next legislative period.
