This night will forever remember the inhabitants of Podlasie. It was the end of September 2024, when four friends went « for a ride ». Two cars – Audi and Volkswagen. They rushed through the Leipzig colonies near Augustów. Both drivers were drunk. 19-year-old Patrycja B. rode in Audi, who was supposed to give birth in a few weeks. The girl’s name was to be called Nadia. She didn’t even have time to come into the world.
Collision, roofing and silence
According to the investigation, 20-year-old Krzysztof O., who led Audi, lost control of the car while overtaking Volkswagen. There was a contact between vehicles. Audi rolled to the left side of the road and roofed.
A pregnant passenger was seriously injured. Rescuers did everything to save her and the child. Unfortunately, both died in the hospital.
« God, you took everything from me »
– God, you took everything from me in an instant! I lost my only child and granddaughter I have already loved! – Patrycja’s mother said a few days after the accident in an interview with « Super Express ».
To this day, the girl’s family cannot understand why she got into a car driven by a drunk boy. Patrycja had a driving license, she was responsible. Perhaps she was tired. Maybe pregnancy took its toll. Maybe she didn’t want to make scenes. It doesn’t matter today.
The trial has started. The driver doesn’t remember anything
On Friday, May 16, the trial started before the District Court in Augustów. Krzysztof O. and his colleague, 20-year-old Igor K. sat on the bench of the accused
Krzysztof O. heard allegations: causing a fatal accident, alcohol riding (he had 2 per mille), breaking a court ban and providing alcohol with a minor sister. He pleaded guilty before the court. « I don’t admit because I don’t remember anything, » he said, quoted by PAP. He refused to testify.
He faces up to 20 years in prison. He is still in custody.
The second driver was also drunk
Igor K., a Volkswagen driver, rode with a per mille of alcohol in his blood. He was also accused. He is accused of drunk driving and giving alcohol to a minor girl. He confessed to driving a car after alcohol. He denied, however, that he had drunk a minor. Exercised the right to silence. From December he has been in the wild, he responds with his free foot.
