Readers of Kauno diena were considering why part of the benches of the Nemunas Island – concrete, without any wooden insert. According to Kaunas, such benches are uncomfortable, uncomfortable to sit on them.

“We just visited the Science Island, then we wanted to sit on the Nemunas Island itself, but we were unpleasantly surprised. There are concrete benches on the paths that contain wood, but we wanted to sit a little more privately, so we thought to stop at round benches. They are built at the Sakura Park, several of them at the « Science Island », but these round benches are completely concrete. Why couldn’t you make wood inserts here? Still, spring did not warm up air that it would be fun to sit on the concrete. And anyway, the concrete coating is uncomfortable, does not invite you to rest at all, ”said Darija, a newspaper reader.

The woman pointed out that the Nemunas Island’s paths did not cover the quality. According to Kaunas, although the concrete pedestrian paths were installed a few years ago, some of them had broken down, and cracks opened. « I do not know if the decision to do concrete, not asphalt or pad paths is really successful. As far as I know, concrete paths are only on the Nemunas Island, it can be said to be a kind of experiment.

The daily Kaunas city specialists asked for both the quality of the concrete paths and the benches.

« The benches on the Nemunas Island were installed according to the project. The project provided some benches with wooden pallets and part without.

Work on the Nemunas Island is a guarantee. The contractor is infused. As soon as the weather conditions are appropriate, the work will be carried out to remedy the defects, ”commented Radeta Savickienė, Head of the Environmental Protection Division.
