Despite the tripling, the mood remains cloudy.
The FPÖ has increased strongly and will lead the opposition in the next few years – but nothing more. Because the 20.4 percent do not feel like a triumphal comeback. Unlike in the recent past under Heinz-Christian Strache, the freedoms did not even come close to the SPÖ to contest them nervous and her omnipotence. Which is considerable in view of the acute and not denying problems in Vienna, such as security, education and health. A government participation was never possible – due to the lack of a coalition partner.
Although it was already foreseeable that the blue potential in Vienna is not fully exploited. Which also lies to top candidate Dominik Nepp, who represents the core topics of his party, both in his language and in his appearance, namely security and migration, differently (with less noise and taboo breaks) as Strache or Herbert Kickl at the federal level.
The result will of course still want to book as – also personal – success. He also appeared a bit like a winner on Sunday evening. Although like a tragic one, since the 43-year-old did not manage to surprise anyone despite the favorable starting point.
