The tragic accident took his life from the valued postman
This tragic accident occurred in Jurki near Morąg (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship). Leszek R. was 58 at the time of his death. Opel Corsa, which was managed by a man, was hit by the Silver BMW overtaking him.
The accident occurred on Tuesday, May 27. It was light because the tragedy happened at approx. 16.00. Rescuers who were the first to reach the place were not able to help the 58-year-old. The postman who was driving Opel died on the spot. The 21-year-old BMW driver was not injured and was detained by the police. He is currently in the detention center.
« Always smiling, always kind. » A great loss for the community
Leszek R. provided letters, packages and pensions to the inhabitants of Morąg for four decades. He was known and valued for his kindness, punctuality and positive attitude. His death shook the local community. People remember him as a man with a big heart.
– He was a great postman, a miracle not a man. Always cheerful, he never was late – says Antonina Andrzejewska (61 years old), one of the inhabitants of Jurków in his eyes. – He just returned from a trip to the Holy Land. He had a vacation until Wednesday, but unfortunately he returned to work the day before – he adds.
Leszek R. carried a bunch of flowers for his wife on the occasion of her birth that day. In the car, firefighters found a bouquet that was to be an expression of his love. He orphaned four sons who now have to face a huge loss.

Residents pay attention to the dangerous section of the road where the accident occurred. – On this section of the road, everyone goes like crazy. A month ago there was also an accident – recalls Magdalena Andrzejewska (30 years old). – I saw him last. He brought a package with car parts for my husband. He always talked with a smile, even my dog liked him, although dogs usually do not like postmen.
Leszek R. also mentions Elwira Mejk, the singer of the popular Disco Polo band from Morąg. – Mr. Leszek, a delivery man from my area. Always smiling, always kind. He left letters with such joy, as if he were carrying the most precious to the recipients – says the artist. – His joy of life was not artificial. He really loved what he did. Everyone liked and valued him very much – he adds.
Leszek R. died on duty, returning home after delivering the last letter that day.
