The ten best animated films of all time

Animated films are not just for children. Animation comes in many genres, from family to comedy, from action to horror. However, the best animated films are not only great films but also artwork. Whether it’s a state, cartoon or fully computer -made animations, the best animated films of all time bring the viewer into new imaginative worlds. This list also contains the best animated family films and those for the older audience. So keep in mind that not all of these films are suitable for children. However, all of these films offer great storytelling, wonderful visual effects and presentation of the best animation.
Animation has existed at least since the late 1800s. Although short animated films are an essential part of the genre, this list includes only feature films. Namely, the first feature film was « Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs » since 1937.
This list includes editions of a study such as Disney, Studio Gibi and Pixar, as well as some independent productions. Although the two animated films with the highest earnings, « King Lion » (2019) and « Frozen Kingdom II », do not appear on this list, many of the following have experienced great success, both critical and commercially. This list also includes many types of animation, including stoppage, traditional animation and computer animation.
It is too difficult and ungrateful to make such a list in which only ten films would participate, but unfortunately, there is no room for some spectacular releases such as Shrek, « Prince of Egypt », « Anastasia » and « Who set the Roger Rabot », and « Cinema »:

1. Taken by the Spirit (2001)

After a script and directed by Hayo Miyazaki, « Taken by the Spirit » is a fantastic film by « Studio Gibbla ». The film follows the story of a ten -year -old girl Chihiro, who is trapped in the spirit world and must save her parents from the wicked witch Jubaba.

2. The grave of the fireflies (1988)

« The Grave of the Handle » is one of the darkest films from Studio Gibi. The director is Isao Takahata, and the film follows two children struggling to survive the horrors of the 1940s war in Japan.
« The Grave of the Handle » is not a children’s film and is a very sad film. However, the film was originally portrayed as a double film with the much easier « My Neighbor Totoro ». It is the only film by Studio Gibbla before « From above on the 2011 poppy hill », for which Disney has never had rights to distribute in North America. Famous film critic Roger Ebert said it was « an emotional experience so powerful that it imposes a review of animation ».
This manually drawn tragic animated drama is 37th on the eternal list of « Imdb », right behind « taken by the spirit ».

3. Fantasy (1940)

« Fantasy » is probably the most experimental film that Disney ever released. Instead of a single plot, the film contains eight works of classical music conducted by Leopold Stokovski and interpreted by Disney animators. Every work contains no dialogue, but is accompanied by the Philadelphic Orchestra.
The film is most memorable in its version of Paul Dukas’s « Wizard », featuring brooms and Mickey Mouse. However, many of the other works are much less narrative. Fantasy has a 95 percent rating on the Roten Tomatos platform, but also caused controversy. While the early controversy included a plagiarism and anger lawsuit over the scientific depictions of the birth of the universe, later criticism was directed at racism. It is the first animated film to receive a rating for parental surveillance in the United States and is the shortest film on this list with a duration of just 71 minutes.

5. Paprika (2006)

Based on the novel of the same name, « Paprika » is an animated Japanese psychological thriller with « R » rating. « Paprika » was the last film directed by the famous Anime Satoshi director. The film follows the detective of dreams following a trail of a terrorist that steals a device that can affect people’s dreams.
The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival. Many have cited Paprika as a possible « start » impact as films share many elements of the plot. However, Christopher Nolan did not support such claims. The film is very creative and one of the best visually stimulating films.

6. Persepolis (2007)
