High Tatras. On Monday, there was discussed changes in fare in Tatra tram. For example, a new way from Starý Smokovec to Poprad, for which you now pay 1.50 euros, could cost four euros.
The Tatrans are angry that they were excluded from the negotiations between the High Tatras, the Ministry of Transport, the Prešov Self -Governing Region and the Railway Company Slovakia.
According to the design of the proposal The Ministry of Transport, which is currently in the Collection of Laws, should be united in the Tatras at four euros. Mayor Jozef Štefaňák (independent) confirmed on Tuesday that this price could no longer move.
However, the Tatrans wanted to talk about the prices with the institutions concerned. The mayor promised them, but it didn’t happen. On Sunday, the day before the negotiations, the mayor told them that the planned personal meeting was changing to the online meeting.
Tatranci say that were finally cut off since the negotiations. « We were waiting for more than an hour, but the negotiations did not start. The official reason was the technical problems. In fact, it seemed to us as a purpose -built negotiation, so that the voice of citizens could not be heard. »
Mayor Štefaňák repeats that they initially solved technical problems. « We appreciate every initiative and we are glad when the public is involved. The fare surprised us a bit, but we did everything we can to keep the Tatrycard prices unchanged for tourists.
An atypical tariff
After Monday’s negotiations, the change is most affected by one -time passengers. “The meeting was attended by representatives of the local governments, which we explained,” says spokeswoman Petra Poláčiková.
For example, they criticized the increase in prices from the Prešov County. The spokeswoman of the Prešov Self -Governing Region Daša Jeleňová responded last week that if the ministry’s intention to increase the fare in the Tatras to a single four euro became a reality, it would be a significant price leap.
« Such an atypical tariff element, a price that does not depend on neither kilometers nor on zones nor from time to time, could also be an obstacle in the process of integrating rail transport into the IDS East Tariff, which can only unnecessarily complicate the whole process and stretch in time, » says Jeleňová.

Local traveling regularly recommends the transport department of a weekly or monthly ticket. The price of the weekly ticket will increase from EUR 14 to EUR 16, monthly from EUR 16 to EUR 18.
« But thanks to this, the carrier will be able to add eight extra trains that local passengers have long wanted, » the ministry says.
The Tatrans respond to this that these are seasonal connections when they are all, including them, to holidays.
Mayor Štefaňák says that over time there will be even more connections. It also advocates increasing the fare by continuing the repair of the peron at Strbske Pleso, new investments and many improvements are being planned.
