The suspect arrested in investigating the possible rape film King’s Day
On Tuesday, the police arrested a suspect in the investigation into a video in which two people seem to have sex on the street during King’s Day in Amsterdam. The arrest follows after the woman concerned has reported rape, reports the police. Details about the suspect were not announced.
The images would show how a man was in broad daylight last Saturday with his pants on his ankles among parked cars. He would lie on top of a woman and seem to penetrate her. Images of the incident have been spread in recent days on X, WhatsApp and other social media. Soon the question arose whether the sex had been with the consent of the woman and whether the images were not a testimony to sexual violence.
The Amsterdam police already announced on Monday to investigate whether there is rape. The identity of the two people would be known to the police, and the two would know each other. A police spokesperson shouted to remove the video of social media and added that « sharing sexually tinted images without permission » is punishable.
It is not the only video that goes on social media from people who have sex in the public space on King’s Day. Several young women were also filmed during King’s Day while they were peeing. These videos were shared on social media without their knowledge.
Response Halsema
On her Instagram-Account already expressed the Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema about the issue. « Making and distributing these kinds of images is not only punishable, but also deeply humiliating and offensive, » Halsema writes. « Nobody can be photographed or filmed naked or during sex without explicit permission. »
