The supreme leader of Iran, sharp response

The supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said on Saturday that his country would not negotiate under the US « Tyrannic pressure, one day after US President Donald Trump announced that he had sent a letter to Tehran to negotiate a nuclear agreement, AFP and Reuters.

Trump said, in an interview for Fox Business: « There are two ways in which Iran can be treated or you agree » to prevent Tehran from equipping nuclear weapons.

In a meeting with high Iranian officials, Khamenei said that the purpose of Washington's offer is to « impose its own expectations. »

« The insistence of tyrannical governments on negotiations is not meant to solve the problems, but to impose their own expectations. For them discussions are a way to have new expectations, it is not just about the Iranian nuclear problem. Clearly, Iran will not accept their expectations, ”stressed the Iranian leader.

Although he expressed his willingness to conclude an agreement with Iran, Donald Trump resumed the campaign of « maximum pressures » started in his first mandate (2017-2021) in order to economic isolation of Iran and the massive decrease of Iranian oil exports.

In 2018, Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the international Iranian nuclear program and reintroduced hard economic sanctions on Tehran.
