The Supreme Court proposes to judge a Canarian coalition senator for crimes of false testimony and false complaint | Spain
The Supreme Court plans to sit on the bench to Canarian coalition senator Pedro Manuel Sanginéswho prosecuted in February 2024 for crimes of false testimony and false complaint committed, allegedly, when president of the Insular Cabildo of Lanzarote. The magistrate of the Vicente Magro Criminal Chamber has ordered to continue with the procedure and give the parties 10 days to request the opening of oral trial or the dismissal of the case.
The magistrate has issued this car after the Criminal Chamber annulled on April 9 the definitive file of the cause that the instructor had dictated and ordered him to continue the investigation. The Chamber made that decision by estimating the appeal resources presented by the Prosecutor’s Office and the private accusation.
The facts for which Sanginés are investigated date to 2009when the now senator held the position of president of the Insular Cabildo of Lanzarote and the local public entity (Center for Arts, Culture and Tourism). On November 11 of that year, he voluntarily appeared before the Police of Costa Teguise to denounce irregularities in the hiring of certain services committed by various people.
According to the prosecutor’s accusation, collected in the order in which the Supreme Court opened the cause, Sanginés made the complaint, narrating irregularities that constituted several crimes against the public administration, « with the intention of missing the objective truth, and with manifest contempt for it. » Following this complaint, then ratified by the politician on several occasions, proceedings that ended filed were reached.
Sanginés was the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote between 2009 and 2019, the year he was evicted after the victory of the PSOE after the regional elections. In May he was elected councilor of the City of Arrecife – although he finally resigned from his minutes – and deputy in the Canarian wall.
