The strength of fine particulate matter has risen in the city

The concentration of fine particulate matter (PM1) has been raised at several measuring stations in the city over the weekend and today. The increase is probably due to pollution from forest fires in Canada.

According to the Canadian Meteorological Office, pollution clouds from forest fires have been spread throughout Canada, the United States and to Europe.

Those who are sensitive to the respiratory tract may experience discomfort, but if they are hardly limited, outdoor activities should be limited as far as possible.

This is stated in the notification of website City of Reykjavik.

Air quality measured with color code

The Reykjavik Health Authority closely monitors the city’s air quality and sends out warnings and instructions if there is reason.

The concentration of particulate matter and other pollutants can be monitored on loftgaedi.is. There you can see maps of measuring sites in Reykjavik and elsewhere in the country.

The Environment Agency’s air quality web site assesses air quality with the color code above.

Very good = small or no air pollution. Probably no health effects.

Good = low air pollution. Little or no health effects.

Decent = some air pollution. Very sensitive individuals and individuals with asthma or other underlying lung and/or heart disease can experience symptoms due to increased concentrations of air pollutants in the atmosphere.
