2013
March 13: The conclave chooses the Argentinian Jorge Mario Bergoglio as Pope. He is the successor to Pope Benedict XVI, who surprisingly resigned on February 28 of the same year. Bergoglio is the first Pope from the South American continent. He chooses the Pope name « Francis ». To strive for a « poor church for the poor ».

2014
June 8: In the Vatican gardens, Francis holds a prayer of peace with the Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas and the President of the Israeli President Schimon Peres. At the end of May the Pope traveled to Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian areas.
November 25: Francis gives a speech to the European Parliament. In connection with refugees, he speaks of « globalization of indifference ».
December 17: The United States and Cuba announce that it will again accept diplomatic relationships with each other. The breakthrough was conveyed by Pope Francis and the diplomacy of the Holy Chair.
2015
June 18: A few months before the climate conference in Paris, the Pope publishes his environmental cyclical « Laudato Si ‘ », in which he addresses the economic and moral dimension of climate change.
December 8: The Pope opens the holy gate of St. Peter’s Cathedral and thus initiates an extraordinary holy year of mercy (until November 20, 2016).
2016
February 12: In Havana, Pope Francis meets Moscow Patriarch Kyrill I. It is the first time that the head of the Catholic and that of the Russian Orthodox Church meets personal meetings.

2017
September 6th: During his trip to Colombia, the Pope advertises the implementation of the peace agreement with the guerrilla and for reconciliation after the civil war.
2018
August 20: Pope Francis writes « to the people of God » a four -page letter on the subject of abuse. « To say no about abuse means to say no to any form of clericalism with emphasis. »
September 22: The Holy Stuhl and China enclose a 70-year clashes about the name of the bishop.
2019
February 21: At an anti-abuse summit in the Vatican, a common awareness among the bishops is to be established worldwide. Critics criticize the few concrete results.
2020
March 27: Corona pandemic has been keeping the world in suspense for months. The pictures go around the world, as Francis celebrates Easter celebrations on a deserted St. Peter’s Square. Planned trips and major events are canceled.
October 3: Francis releases his encyclical « Fratelli Tutti », in which he outlines ideas for humanity that could emerge strengthened from the Corona crisis.
2021

2024
June 14: For the first time, a Pope takes part in a G7 summit. Francis travels to a round table about the dangers of artificial intelligence to Puglia.
September 2: Pope Francis breaks down on the longest journey of his pontificate. In thirteen days, the Pope Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Singapore visits.
October 2: In Rome, the final part of the three -year world synod begins, during which the Catholic Church was advised. As in autumn 2023, the participants are not only bishops but also laymen, including around 45 women.
December 24: On Christmas Eve, Pope Francis opens the holy gate of St. Peter’s Basilica and heralds the regular Holy Year 2025.
2025
February 14: The Pope goes to the Gemelli Hospital in Rome because of long-lasting bronchitis. Shortly thereafter, a beginning pneumonia is diagnosed shortly afterwards.
