The state pays nearly 46 million in legal costs

The legal cost of the terrorist case, after going through two levels of court, costs the Treasury just under ISK 46 million. It remains to be seen whether the case will go to the Supreme Court.

Landsrett sentenced Sindra Snæ Birgisson and Ísidór Nathansson to pay a lower percentage of costs than the District Court of Reykjavik had done, or from a quarter to a fifth.

The defendants of the bilinguals, Sveinn Andri Sveinsson and Einar Oddur Sigurðsson, said in their national law that 95% of their work had gone into the terrorist part of the case. Therefore, the Treasury should pay the bill by far. Sindri and Isidor were acquitted at both courts for that part.

Then they requested that The defense of their wages decided by the district court would be revised, total 22 million per lawyer.

Sveinn Andri said that the time report was screwed down and he thought he had only been paid about 60% of the work.

Pay almost 6 million each

National law confirmed the lawyers' defense as he was determined in the district, but as previously stated, Sindri and Isidór pay a fifth and not a quarter. In addition, Sindri pays a fifth of the defense's remuneration at a research stage, which was a total of ISK 2 million.

Then the men also pay a fifth of their defense defense wages for national law. The salary of the defense of Sindra amounts to 6 million in total and the defense of Isidor 5 million in total.

In total, the Treasury pays almost 46 million in the defense of the terrorist case in the district and for national law. Sindri will have to pay ISK 6 million and Isidór ISK 5.4 million.
