The state grabs your money if you don’t respond

It happens that money disappears without a trace – not because they are stolen, but because no one knows the owner.

Precisely that scenario is now taking place on a large scale, where the Tax Agency is calling for owners of thousands of bank accounts and securities redepots real owners.

The amounts are not insignificant and some may end up losing access to their funds.

It writes the Tax Agency in one press release

In collaboration with 16 Danish banks, the Tax Agency publishes a comprehensive list in the Official Journal of over 8,561 accounts and 105 depots, which in total contain just over DKK 20.5 million.

Several banks have not been able to collect the necessary identification information such as name, address or CPR number, which is a requirement to be able to report to the authorities. Without this information, access to the accounts is blocked.

« The banks have not been able to contact the wanted owners and therefore do not have the necessary identification information. Therefore, they are now sought in the Official Gazette, » says Ulrick Junge, Deputy Director of the Tax Agency.

The information must be provided by April 30, 2026, otherwise the money will pass to the state. Since January, the money has been inaccessible in the hope that the owners would sign up.

Most accounts contain smaller amounts below DKK 10,000, but in seven accounts there are up to DKK 217,000.

« Regardless of the size of the amount, the pity you risk losing, » Ulrick Junge emphasizes, calling for contact information up to date, especially when moving abroad.

The Tax Agency emphasizes that this is the fifth time that such a search is made and the invitation reads:

Check the list. It may be you yourself, or someone you know has money standing, which can soon be gone forever.
