The « speed marathon » was over: How many drivers did you get stuck?
Edgar Kazakov, a traffic police specialist, told how many speed lovers were driving and how many speed lovers were able to get stuck in the first raid.
– We started control of speed from the morning – we started on Minsk Highway, Laisvės Avenue, Justiniškių Street. We recorded about 35 protocols.
– How many hours?
– within 4-5 hours work. Speed lovers did not happen, all less driving above 30, several were above.
– What are drivers justifying? Hurry, didn’t see the speedometer, didn’t look at the speed?
– There are all kinds of stories. Mostly, hurry, all the work, things.

Vytautas Grašys, Head of the Public Order Bureau of the Police Department, continued this topic and told about speed measurement measures.
– Both the city streets and the highway could have happened that speed measuring equipment was movable and the speed was measured even after the average speed end. This measure is needed to persuade drivers that safe speed is a very important element to participate in traffic safely.
– What means will raids? Will more officials have been used, or will speedometers be more sensitive? How will the offenders be recorded?
– Sufficient stationary speedometers, medium speedometers are sensitive in Lithuania. We also have additional techniques – movable speedometers, unmarked police cars with speed locking systems. Of course, that day, the traffic police activities were the speed control. There were more police officers.
– Sectoral stationary speed meter network, various cameras – this is expanded. Does this change the situation on the country’s roads?
– Unfortunately, at this point, we are discussing with politicians about development. Measures are being taken to stop the development, but the policy of the whole Europe in the field of traffic safety is the development of such speed systems measurements as they have a certain effect. Recently, when there are such systems on Lithuanian roads, we estimate that they have a major impact on road safety, changing their mindset and encouraging drivers to keep safe speed more often. Systems really contribute to safety, especially since the situation is a bit improved compared to last and last year.

– What do we look in the context of other countries?
– Recently, Lithuania has been identified as the country with the greatest progress in the field of traffic among European countries. I think that speed control in Lithuania has also contributed to this. About a third of accidents in which people are killed are precisely due to the unprecedented or exceeded speed. We are a bit better than the European average. We seem to have $ 44 million. There is too much for us on the road, but one who died on Lithuanian roads is too much for us. We must take all measures to prevent such deaths and traffic accidents. And speed control and drivers’ awareness, understanding that speed is needed first and foremost to be safe, contributes to it.
– This measure was carried out around the clock on Wednesday. Probably a message to drivers to not relax and not forget speed after that is probably continuity?
– Of course. We still carry out speed control on Lithuanian roads so far on all roads, in all cities and the rules of the road. If this day contributes to the fact that at least one driver will deliberately understand that the safe speed he has chosen is required, a certain result will be achieved. But when speaking in the broad sense, we want the vast majority of drivers, and those who commit road traffic offenses, realize that information reaches not only ears but also the brain – speed is still one of the biggest problems in traffic safety.
