The South Korean Constitutional Court dismissed President Jun Sok-Jola
Constitutional judges agreed unanimously.
SOUL. South Korean Constitutional Court on Friday confirmed the appeal (impeachement) suspended President Jun Sok-Jola of the Presidential Office for the declaration of short-term martial law in December last year.
Jun is immediately dismissed from the post of President and the country has 60 days to organize premature Presidential electionsinforms Jonhap and BBC.
« We hereby announce the following decision with the unanimous consent of all judges. We dismiss opponent President Jun Sok-Jola, » said the reigning chairman of the court Moon Hyung-Bae.
The President violated the law
The judge stated that the introduction of martial law « damaged the fundamental political rights of people ». He also added that « it violated the principles of the rule of law and democracy ».
The declaration of martial law, according to the court’s decision, was not justified by the national crisis. Jun, according to the court, violated the law when he sent soldiers to the National Assembly to prevent the abolition of martial law.

« He did not comply with his duties and went against the people he was supposed to protect, » the judge said. According to the court, the benefits of the constitutional protection of the Constitution are greater than the national losses of the President’s appeal.
The martial law declared Jun Sok-Jol on December 3 last year, provoked a political crisis in the country.
After a few hours, his decision was canceled by Parliament and subsequently suspended the exercise of the presidential powers and initiated the constitutional process of the dismissal of the head of state.

Thousands of cops in the streets
According to Jonhap, the opposition Democratic Party welcomed the court’s decision as a « victory for people », while the government’s conservative Party of the People (PPP) said it « humbly accepted » the Constitutional Court’s decision.
On Friday, the police deployed approximately 7,000 members near the Constitutional Court and the authorities warned of any unlawful activities in connection with the judgment against the suspended president.
The police said before it, in an effort to increase security, approximately 20,000 police officers would deploy safety across the country, of which approximately 14,000 in the capital, especially near the presidential residence.
According to the AP, the police have closed almost all roads and streets leading to the court by buses, deliveries and barricades.
