The Social Democrats welcome defense initiatives of 300 billion

Over a ten -year period the government wants to borrow SEK 300 billion To renovate the Swedish defense. That message gave Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson at a press conference on Wednesday.

The Social Democrats’ economic-political spokesman Mikael Damberg says at a press conference that S on several occasions emphasized the importance of speeding up the renovation-and the need for a loan-financed total defense fund and welcomes the government to « obey their requirements ».

But he believes that discussions are required about what the long -term funding should mean.

– I noticed that the government is unclear, but it will be crucial if it should not push away other things that create a robust society.

Priorities will be required to pay for the renovation – and new revenue, he says.

– Otherwise, this only means savings and it will cost on the Swedish people. It is not reasonable for welfare to pay the cost of this expansion. You have to speak tax bases that can last over time in order for us to do this.

Ida Gabrielsson (V) Am happy about the message, but says that investments must also go to non-military upgrading within the total defense-such as electricity grids and railways. In the future, she wants to look at taxes to finance the renovation.

– You could have failed to remove the tax for those with the highest income. It is not so good to borrow money if you simultaneously donate revenue that the state has and can distribute.

The Center Party’s economic-political spokesperson Martin Ådahl welcomes the government’s message and says it is necessary to finance the renovation in the beginning. He estimates that SEK 100 billion is needed for the renovation of the civil defense until 2030.

– The experience of Ukraine’s defense shows how crucial it is with a strong civil defense is, including infrastructure, food supply, energy, and we want to ensure that Sweden is well equipped in a troubled world.
