The situation unacceptable but nothing changes
Poor telecommunications relationships in one of the country’s most dangerous roads, Axarvegur, requires improvements and immediately. Large chapters on that road, as well as the highway around Hamarsfjörður and Álftafjörður, have either no or poor telecommunications relationship.
This is stated in the Protocol of the Home Government Djúpavogshreppur.
A report on the status of telecommunications states that the problem may be attributed to the state that has not put sufficient funding for security. Therefore, the company must take care of the structure and operation of structures for emergency and safety communications for emergency responders.
Eiður Ragnarsson, employee of the Home Government and a representative of the mayor, says locals have spoken for deaf ears about improvements to these dead spots for many years. Little to nothing happens. The situation is unacceptable.
« Naturally, nothing has changed here for many years, » he says. « All municipalities in the East have been pushing for this. »
Multiple and dangerous road
The booking of the Djúpavogur Home Board draws attention to the fact that increasing traffic is on Axarveg and other highways in Gamla Djúpavogshreppur and therefore there is a great deal of safety for both pedestrians and responders.
The Axarvegur is the most dangerous road in the country when MA is taken into account by miles on the road. According to the same calculation rule, chapters on the highway in Hamarsfjörður and Álftafjörður are 11. In the row on that list.
Eid says he knows that traffic incidents have occurred on Axarvegur where there is no telecommunications connection.
« It has escaped simply because other pedestrians have come and simply provided assistance and have come to a telephone connection, » says Eiðr.
« This applies to a section in Hamarsfjörður and Álftafjörður too, where there is a telephone connection Stopult. »
In addition, telephone connection is little to nothing in the avalanche hazard area in the Laundildren and Hvalnesskarðir.
« In winter, it is an avalanche danger area and traffic there would have to clearly have a telephone connection. »

Underfunding by the state
At a meeting of the Home Government held last month, the East Bridge report on telecommunications issues in East Iceland was presented.
In the report, MA says that according to the requirements set by the telecommunications companies with the issue of licenses to them in the spring of 2023, they must cover all the trunk roads of the country and establish high -speed farms in the area. Eleven new transmitters are scheduled to be added to reach a full cover of trunk roads in the East.
« It was estimated that this structure would be worked on in collaboration with the telecommunications companies with security communications, but that collaboration is upset due to the state’s underfunding on the aspects of safety telecommunications, » the report says.
No requirements for the cover of some places
The report draws attention to the fact that although the requirements for coverage on the trunk roads are good and valid, not all highways are defined as trunk roads.
« In the East there are long road sections that are not defined as trunk roads and there are no requirements on telecommunications companies to improve the cover. »
Dozens of tips
More than 80 suggestions were received from emergency responders, tourism providers, professional drivers and the Road Administration to the East Bridge when information was requested on where they were mainly needed for the distribution of both Farneta and Tetra.
As stated in the report, many suggestions were received for areas where improvements have already been made, for example, on the trunk road, but also suggestions were received for both bad or no network and tetra connection in areas where there are no plans for years.
The Djúpavogshreppur Home Board therefore directs the municipality of Múlaþing to push for improvements in telecommunications relationships on the road chapters mentioned above as soon as possible.
