The shunned placement like never ever for 15 years, after its drop in rate in February – Liberation
« The favorite placement of the French » beats wing. Always penalized by The drop in its remuneration rate in Februarythe booklet was shunned by savers last month and signed its worst month of April since 2009, according to data published this Thursday, May 22 by the Caisse des Dépôts (CDC).
The French preferred to draw in their booklet A Rather than garnishing it and the total amount of withdrawals from the most widespread savings product exceeded that of deposits of 200 million euros in April. This « Net decollect » is unprecedented by its amount since 2009 – the year of the generalization of the distribution of booklet A to all banks – and only April 2015 had already seen the booklet to finish in the red, at -100 million euros.
Conversely, Sustainable and solidarity development booklets (LDDS) got a little garnished last month, with a net collection of 310 million euros.
Booklets A and LDDS, two cousin products from which only the ceiling differs, keep an available savings but they suffer from the drop in their remuneration rate from 3 % to 2.4 %, announced in mid-January and entered into force on February 1. They suffer in particular from competition from life insurance, which had garnered record contributions in March.
Illustration of the disaffection of the French for these two savings products: over the first four months of the year, the accumulation of the amounts collected by the banks for these two booklets amounts to 3.6 billion euros, against 11.3 billion euros over the period January-April 2024.
The month of April is often not a bearer for this booklet, under the effect of annual accounts of accounts by banks for holders no longer fulfilling the means conditions, but the magnitude of the Decllet suggests that there too, the withdrawals were higher than the payments. By way of comparison, in April 2024, decollect was only 270 million euros.
Despite this slowdown in collection, the outstanding for these two booklets are still evolving around their highest historical highs: 444 billion euros for booklet A, 162.7 billion euros for the LDDS, or 606.7 billion euros in total, a record.
In addition, the popular savings book (LEP), reserved for modest households, has also experienced its worst month of April since 2009, with a strong decollect, of 1.96 billion euros. The total outstanding LEP established 80.8 billion euros last month.
