The second Romanian punished by ITIA
The Romanian player Irina Fetecău was suspended ten months by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITI) for violating the Tennis Anti -Doping Program (TADP), after being positively tested, following the use of a contaminated supplement.
Fetecău (29 years old), whose best ranking in the world hierarchy was 207th place, in December 2021, was positively tested on the banned substance 4-methylpentan-2-amin, a stimulant, after consuming the contaminated supplement « Gorillpha Yeti Juice ».
ITIA notified the player about the violation of the anti -doping regulation on May 24, 2024 in Article 2.1 of the TADP (the presence of a substance prohibited in the player’s sample) and/or article 2.2 (use of a prohibited substance without a therapeutic use – TUE).
Fetecău was positively tested at an ITF tour at Florianopolis (Brazil), in April 2024.
In August 2024, Fetecău announced that it had identified a supplement contaminated as a source of the detected stimulant, through a laboratory accredited by the World Anti -Doping Agency (Austria). The analyzes were studied by ITIA, and the script was checked scientifically by an expert, being considered plausible.
Although Fetecău acknowledged the violation of the anti -doping regulation, it challenged the sanction proposed by the 12 -month IT, so that the case arrived before an independent court to determine the right sanction.
A hearing took place through a video conference on April 3, 2025, after which the independent court decided that Irina Fetecău did not commit a « significant mistake or negligence » and dictated a 10 -month suspension, noting that the player took a few steps to reduce the risk of an anti -doping regulation, including consulting a doctor.
The court indicated, however, that there is a high risk in the use of the supplement « Gorillpha Yeti Juice », which is not dedicated to use by professional athletes, and the player had a course related to the contamination of supplements.
The results, money prizes and the points obtained by Fetecău from the tournament where it had been positively tested were canceled, but not from other competitions.
As the player has chosen not to enter a voluntary temporary suspension period, his period of ineligibility will be effective from the moment of announcing the written decision, April 25, 2025, until February 24, 2026. During this period, Irina Fetecău has the right to play, train or attend any event organized by ITIA (ITI).
