The changes provide that the CEC polling stations abroad will be able to set up the Saeima and the European Parliament elections and the referendum on their own initiative or the initiative of the voters in agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Currently, the law stipulates that outside Latvia can be established on a proposal by 36 voters.
The amendments also stipulate that from next year the electoral commissions will be able to form from three members. The draft law also stipulates that from next year, the Cabinet of Ministers, the Chairman of the Election Commission and the Commission of the Election Commission and the Commission, the Secretary and the members of the Commission, the basic monthly salaries specified in the Law on Remuneration of State and Local Government Institutions.
The bill also provides for other clarifications in order to apply a common approach to various elections, including the municipal referendum.
The Saeima has yet to decide on changes in the final reading of the municipal election commissions and polling station commissions.
