The theater seeks to be an equal participant in the theater life of Estonia. The updated theater here clearly outlined its goal to become part of the theater system and culture of Estonia and expand its audience, including outside the Russian -speaking community.
“The theater seeks to be a full -fledged player on the theater stage of Estonia. The theater should be more correlated with the forms, repertoire and approaches of other theaters of the country. The theater cannot exist in a cultural and political vacuum or form a certain enclave. The theater is an integral part of the cultural space of Estonia, ”said Dmitry Petrenko, artistic director of theater.
“The change in the name is a practical and deliberate solution that contributes to the sustainable development of the theater,” said the director of the theater Anna Lii Puyv.
Discussion of the change of name began a year ago. In the process, the theater, members of the Council, representatives of the Ministry of Culture, as well as authoritative cultural figures participated. The decision was made balanced based on the need for a more clear positioning of the theater in the Estonian cultural field and the elimination of distorted interpretations in international communication and media.
