The Russian delegation did not appear in Istanbul. There is a new date of the meeting
Despite the change of date, the Ukrainian delegation will fly to Turkey on Thursday evening. The meeting is to take place in the presence of representatives of the United States and Turkey. Presidents Wołodymyr Zelanski and Vladimir Putin They will not appear in person at conversations. The Ukrainian president previously declared that he would appear in Istanbul only if Putin would also sit at the negotiating table. The Kremlin, however, excluded his presence – the head of the Russian delegation will be the adviser to Putin, Vladimir Miedinski.
Peace talks without the participation of leaders
Zelanski finally agreed to send Ukrainian negotiators after talking to Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He emphasized that this is an expression of respect for Erdoğan and Donald Trump. The head of the Ukrainian delegation will be the Minister of Defense Rust.
The President of Ukraine criticized the low level of the representative office of the Russian delegation. In his opinion, this proves that the Kremlin is not seriously interested in dialogue. He added that Putin’s lack of presence shows his disrespectful attitude towards the host of the meeting and Donald Trump.
Zielnski noted, however, that the key condition for any progress in peaceful talks must be unconditional suspension of weapons. « If the technical level can be stopped, the personal meeting of leaders will not be necessary, » he said.
The President of Ukraine ended his visit to Ankara and went to Tirana, where he would take part in the summit of the European political community.
Rubio: There will be no breakthrough
In an interview with journalists, the American Secretary of State Marco Rubio He cooled down, claiming that he was not expecting any breakthrough after meeting the delegation in Istanbul. The US, as he assured, will send their representative « at the right level » to the talks, but he will not take part in them.
Rubio also reminded the statement Donald Trumpwhich believes that a breakthrough in negotiations can only occur in the case of a direct meeting on the Trump-Putin line. – Only such a level of commitment has a real chance to change something – emphasized the politician.
Trump did not rule out that he would appear in Turkey, if Putin is present, but as he added: « Nothing will happen until we meet. »
