The right to life of all creatures
A large photo exhibition of a renowned modern English photographer will be opened today at Cankarjev dom Nick Brandt. It is one of the more renowned photographers, who focuses primarily on environmental topics, his photographs, which are also characterized by formal perfection, are part of many public and private collections.
Nick Brandt, 1964, was born in London, where he first studied painting and then film. In 1992 he moved to California and became a very successful author of music videos, including filming them Michael Jackson, Moby, Jewel and the band XTC. While filming a video for Michael Jackson’s hit Earth Song In Tanzania, he became fascinated with photography, changing his career a decade later, and transformed from a commercial photographer and filmmaker into an engaged author who strives to point out ecological problems and threat to not only the animal world, but also the entire ecosystem in individual parts of Africa, as well as Asia and other parts of the world.
His approach had or had little in common with the then dominant documentary photography of nature and animals. It was already characterized by the image in the style of studio photography, as a rule always in black and white. At the time, he also published a number of photo books, for some of them the accompanying word was written by celebrities, say Jane Goodall, Alice sebold and Vicki Goldberg.
Brandt does not restrict his engagement to photography, exhibitions, lectures and books. In 2010, he founded the Big Life Foundation non -profit organization, which is focused on the conservation of African ecosystem and endangered animal species. In particular, a lot of attention is paid to the former populations of elephants in Kenya and Tanzania, which is rapidly decreasing due to heresies. The Foundation enables the operation of many teams that are located in outposts in the most critical areas, comprising about 8,000 square kilometers of nature parks in both countries where the most active are the most active.
Intimate characteristics of animals
Brandt defined his approach to photography as a demonstration of the existence of animals as living things in their elemental appearance, without unnecessary tension or drama. “The foundation of my attitude to all the living world is that all living beings are equal and have the same right to life, not less than humans. That is why I try to capture all the beauty of nature in the photos that people destroy daily, « he stressed. Brandt admits that in photographs of animals, he somehow captures their individual or intimate characteristics, as if « animals somehow responded to posing. »
A photo series will be on display at Cankarjev dom The day will comewhich shows humans and animals affected by degradation and destruction of the environment. Brandt points out how strongly our destinies are intertwined. The cycle was created in different countries, which are among the least responsible for climate change, but have been severely affected. The first two chapters were photographed in Kenya, Zimbabwe and Bolivia, and the third in Fiji, where the author photographed the residents there, to whom it is already, and even more will be directly influenced by the rise of sea level.
Chapter Fourth Echo our voices will be on display at the photo gallery. The images were created in Jordan, which is considered another country in the world after water deficiency. In the photos, there are families of refugees who escaped before the war in Syria and are now undergoing constant migrations due to climate change.
