The request to cancel the first round, on the CCR table
The Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) discusses, on Friday, starting at 12:00, the request of Sebastian Popescu, who applied for Cotroceni, to cancel the first tour of the presidential elections on May 4.
Also, in the meeting on Friday, the Constitutional court will also discuss the confirmation/validation of the first round of the elections.
The president of the New Romania Party, Sebastian Popescu, explained that the deposit of the appeal to the Constitutional Court is an approach by which he wanted to send ‘an alarm message’.
‘There are several reasons invoked there, detailed at large, but the central reason, to say, is that not all electoral competitors, the 11, had equal chances in these elections, related to what the Court decided last year, by Decision no. 32, by which the elections were canceled. Starting from there, the yard said some extremely interesting things about equal opportunities. There was no equal opportunities this year. Televisions, media, influencers, opinion journalists, public opinion polling houses-all divided candidates into two major categories: relevant and irrelevant. In the first category, four, two of which reached the final, the others – irrelevant, « said Sebastian Popescu.
He stressed that he started in the election race with ‘a huge, huge handicap.
‘The irrelevant stamp, the transmission of the obsessive message to the electorate that:’ Do not vote for such people, that you vote for nothing, vote useful! ‘ And so on, a gross manipulation. Well, if it was only the useful vote, we do not allow 11, we allow 4 or 2 directly, and we solved the problem. This is not democracy, you must allow the citizen to form his opinion about all the candidates you have to present, especially the media, and equitably, equally. Only a few private private television and Romanian television and public radio were invited me. Otherwise, I have not existed nowhere. This is how at least 6 candidates of my candidates, together, were in the platoon of irrequiters, « Popescu told Agerpres.
He accused that ‘there is no respect for democratic elections, the position of president’ and everything is ‘an excessive handling, a superficialization’ and ‘some exclusively backstage games, where the Romanian does not exist, his interest does not exist’.
« There are only for certain interest groups that will power for them and nothing more, » Popescu added.
He stated that by the appeal filed at the RCC he wanted to send ‘an alarm message’ and say the ‘extremely serious’ things that happened, from his point of view.
Sebastian Popescu mentioned that, although the appeal is formulated to request the cancellation of the elections, because, otherwise, he did not have legal procedure, the CCR could not be addressed with another request, other requirements are formulated.
‘The purpose is not to create chaos, to effectively cancel the choices, that, anyway, they will not be canceled, because there are many reasons that do not produce such a decision. The role of this appeal is to point out that I did not learn anything that happened last year and, at times, it was worse this year, « said Popescu.
He also stated that his request is expected to be rejected as ‘inadmissible’.
From the data published on the website of the Permanent Electoral Authority, after centralizing all the verbal processes, Sebastian Popescu (PNR) obtained 25,994 votes (0.28%) in the elections of May 4.
