The remains of the man who disappeared Monday found – Liberation

The remains of the man who disappeared on Monday off the coast of Hadera beach in the center of Israel, were found on Tuesday, April 22, according to the Israeli media Jfeed. Earlier in the day, Israeli police were still looking for a man who disappeared after an alleged shark attack the day before off Hadera beach in the center of Israel. No shark attack has been reported in the country for decades.

While videos of the attack circulate on social networks, the Israeli authorities have remained cautious. « Several elements have been sent for examination, we await the conclusion of the experts »said Aryeh Doron, a police spokesman, without providing details on the nature of these elements.

Silhouettes of sharks, their fins exceeding water, were visible at sea, noted an AFP journalist on site. On Monday, two rescue organizations, Magen David Adom and Zaka, said that he had been informed of the disappearance of a man off Hadera, witnesses reporting that he had been attacked by a shark.

Israeli media have broadcast several videos showing sharks swimming in recent days in the midst of bathers, including children. Another seems to show the attack on a swimmer, lifting wreaths. The swimming was prohibited on Monday afternoon on this portion of the coast, between Tel Aviv and Haifa.

Dozens of sharks have already been observed, especially during this time of year, near Hadera where there is a power plant. The power station uses sea water to cool its turbines and then rejects this warmed water, which would attract lined sharks and dark sharks. If they can reach several meters long, these species are generally not aggressive towards humans.

The Israeli Authority for Natural Parks and the Israeli Underwater Diving Association have both published warnings to dissuade the divers, attracted by the presence of these living rooms, to approach them. The seasonal population of sharks off Hadera has increased in recent years, likely consequence of the expansion of the power station and the establishment of legislation which prohibits their capture.
