The reduction in customs tariffs is the business community’s demand, says Mickoski
The reduction of customs tariffs is a demand for the business community and it has not been harmonized for decades, Prime Minister Christian Mickoski said tonight. He pointed out that 50 percent of customs tariffs will now be leveled and will be valid from July 1, and the second decrease will be from 1 January 2026.
– These are customs items, paraffial duties, which intend to increase domestic production and help export domestic manufacturing companies and comply with European, which is very important. Fifty percent of customs tariffs will currently be leveled and will be valid from July 1, and the remaining fifty percent from January 1, 2026 – said Mickoski, answering a journalist question in the Macedonian National Theater, before the start of the Academy on the occasion of May 23 – the Vlach National Day.
Asked by President Donald Trump’s announcement that it will introduce 50 % customs duties on the EU and whether it can pose a threat to the Macedonian economy, the prime minister expects that we will be among those countries with the lowest customs rates.
– Our customs item is currently 10 percent with the United States. With this alignment we introduce a customs item of 0 percent for the products and services coming from the US, so I expect it to be recognized. We are already in serious talks with President Trump’s administration. I have talked to US Secretary of State for Economics for several times. I think we will be among those countries that will have the lowest items after that agreement is signed – said Mickoski.
