The Raoul Wallenberg Institute’s library in Lund is rescued
The library is the largest of its kind in Northern Europe and is used for research and education at Lund University, among others. The collection of 30,000 books has been built up for 40 years.
The Raoul Wallenberg Institute has been with deficit in recent years and Missing means of running the library.
– We need support from the government, otherwise we are forced to close in 2025, the institute’s manager Peter Lundberg has previously told DN.
Now the institute will receive money in the spring change budget presented on April 15.
Minister of Education Johan Pehrson is the one responsible for pushing through the money supplement.
-The Raoul Wallenberg Institute is a nice business with an important task. They have a tough situation where they work with different sponsors for their business.
Why is it important for the government to save the library?
– I have great respect for their business and it has made a strong impression on me as a liberal party leader. With SEK 10 million we save the library and I am extremely happy for that.
Will you give any more funding in the future?
-It is up to the Wallenberg Institute to seek support for its research but with this money the library has been saved for at least three years to come.
Peter Lundberg at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute in Lund is relieved by the message from the minister:
– We had applied for ten million in annual contribution. This gives us a short respiratory break, but we will continue to appeal to the government to receive an annual grant, he says.
