The Rabla Ecotichet value will be increased

The Rabla program, the government initiative for stimulating the purchase of less polluting vehicles, is at the center of intense discussions in Romania.

The Minister of the Environment, Water and Forests, Mircea Fechet, recently said that the value of the ecotichet for 2025 has not yet been established, but stressed that it will increase. According to the minister, consultations with car manufacturers and importers are in progress, and will be completed and published the new thresholds of ecotichet.

Among the news of 2025 there is a significant change in the registration process, the Romanians having the opportunity to register directly on the program platform, without depending on car dealers. This change aims to simplify the process, allowing consumers to obtain the voucher and use it at any car dealer.

At the same time, the Ministry of the Environment launched, on March 5, 2025, in public consultation, the Guide for the Rabla program, which includes essential details about the amount of ecotichet. Thus, the ecotichet for 100% electric vehicles will remain at the value of 2024, of 25,500 lei (about 5,000 euros), while for the purchase of cars with thermal or hybrid propulsion, the ecotichet will be 10,000 lei. Also, 7,000 lei are granted for new motorcycles and 13,000 lei for hybrid plug-in vehicles.

However, this proposal has been criticized by the Association of Automobile Producers and Importers (APIA) who believe that current subsidies are not sufficient to support the transition to electric mobility. APIA stressed that the drastic reduction of subsidies in 2024 led to an alarming decrease in sales of electric vehicles, Romania reaching the last place in the European Union in this chapter. In addition, the association suggested the increase in subsidy for electric vehicles to 8,500 euros in 2025, as well as adjusting the maximum eligible acquisition ceiling to 80,000 euros, to reflect inflation and market needs.
