The PSOE is confident that the change of the number two of Marlaska Calme the tension with interior | Spain
The PSOE has lived with great anguish and internal anger last controversies around the Central Operating Unit (UCO), The Elite Research Group of the Civil Guard. That is why several leaders consulted trust that the next relay in the Ministry of Interior, caused by the Departure from the Secretary of State for Security, Rafael Pérez, Right hand of Fernando Grande-Marlaska in the last seven years, serves as a revulsive in an apartment very politically worn out. And also to reduce the tension between the PSOE and the Ministry’s dome, which some accuse of not learning about issues that directly affect the party, such as the information about UCO reports that are not even finished, but also to eliminate the requisites towards the unity of the Armed Institute itself. Relevant sectors of the Executive privately accused the UCO – and some made it fall in public – of being behind the filtration of the WhatsApp messages that Pedro Sánchez exchanged With former Minister José Luis Ábalos.
To occupy that key position, the Secretary of State for Security is outlined Aina Calvo, with a marked political profilesince she was mayor of Palma, but who also knows the State Security Forces, because she was a delegate of the Government in the Balearic Islands, and is now secretary of state of equality. It would not be the first woman to occupy that position with Grande-Marlaska, who at the beginning of her mandate had as number two to Ana Botella Gómez, also a member of the party, but to which she ended up dismissing for discrepancies to put in her place the now resigned Rafael Pérez, who was her chief of cabinet, and that, as a career magistrate, she presents a more legal profile.
Some socialist leaders have been privately expressing their discomfort with what they interpret as a certain lack of control in the interior, given the leaks that Marlaska’s team has not been able to stop. However, from that ministry they answer that, first, it is not clear that they are carried out by the UCO, and second, remember that this unit acts under the orders of the judges and not of the minister, who cannot control their work or ask for information about it. In everyone’s mind in Marlaska’s team, which is a judge and therefore very sensitive to these criticisms, there is what happened with the colonel of the Civil Guard Diego Pérez de los Cobos, Manager, during the government of Mariano Rajoy, of the operation of the armed institute during the illegal referendum of self -determination in Catalonia of October 1, 2017, which ended with strong police charges. Of the Cobos was ceased in its next destination as head of the Command of Madrid after a controversial report on the pandemic and to which the Supreme Court restored in the position with a sentence that was a real varapalo for the minister. Since then, the movements are careful inside the interior and no one is encouraged to interfere in any way in the UCO work, not even for the purpose of obtaining information. The relationship of the Civil Guard with the minister has been almost since he reached the very complex position.
Maximum loyalty
Despite the criticism of the opposition, of some progressive sectors and, even, within the party, Pedro Sánchez has always defended Marlaska, who is in his government from the first moment. The minister has responded with a maximum loyalty. The president says he is a good minister and does not seem to have any intention of changing it. However, there will be a relevant change when replacing Rafael Pérez as number two-who is a judge as a great-Marlaska-for a woman with a very political profile.
The minister said yesterday that all the last controversies, also that of the socialist militant Leire Díez, who maneuvered to seek negative information of the UCO controls, occurs “outside the ministry, unlike what happened with the PP”, in reference to the so -called Patriotic Police and its actions under judicial investigation.
