The Prosecutor General of Estonia today sent a petition to the Chancellor with a proposal to make a question about depriving the deputy inviolability of Calle Laanet to Riigikogu.

The district prosecutor’s office for economic and corruption crimes completed pre -trial proceedings in the criminal case, in the framework of which Calle Laanet was suspected of fraud.

According to the procedure for reimbursing the costs of housing to members of the Government and deputies of Riigikogu, it is not allowed to submit applications for compensation if the lease agreement is concluded with a person related in the sense of the law on the fight against corruption. According to the investigation, in 2022 and 2023, being a deputy of the Riigikogu and the Minister of Justice, Kalle Laanet submitted applications for reimbursement of rental costs for housing, an agreement on which was concluded with an affiliated person. Since the employees of the Riigikogu office and the Ministry of Justice did not know about this, more than 13,000 euros were unreasonably reimbursed on suspicion of the prosecutor’s office.

The Prosecutor General Astrid Asi explained that, according to the prosecutor’s office, the necessary evidence has been collected in the framework of the criminal case, and to continue criminal proceedings, the charges of the charges should be the next procedural step.

“According to the Constitution, the deputy Riigikogu has immunity, and he can be charged only at the suggestion of the Chancellor of Law and with the consent of most members of the parliament. I sent the Chancellor the application to submit a proposal to Riigikoga to deprive Calle Laanet’s deputy inviolability. In accordance with the Code of Criminal Procedure, the Chancellor of the right within a month from the date of receipt of the application either submits to the parliament or returns the petition to the Prosecutor General, ”said the Prosecutor General Astrid Asi.
