The producer of the movie for Hristo Grozev before Dnevnik: The misinformation is like a street without exit

She told Dnevnik that she had worked on a previous project with James Jones, and when he invited her to join this, she agreed immediately because she considered the topic related to the Belingkat investigation extremely interesting. However, throughout the process, they had to be extremely careful, even with the communication between the team.

« One of the characters in the film is a scientist who has developed poisons for the Russian state and he is one of the people who reveal the crimes. He is currently living in a secret place, so we had to be careful not to reveal his identity, » she explains. They had to work in a separate office outside their production company, provide a monitoring system, and they also communicated with each other with encrypted messages.

He admits that there have been some more frightening moments, especially along the history of Bulgarian spies in London, which have followed Hristo Grozev. « Before they were arrested, we knew that Christ’s life was threatened, but this was the first confirmation of the authorities, that it was indeed.

While she was presenting the movie in Sofia, James Jones and Hristo Grozev joined the courage panel and the victims to be made to reveal the truth by creating movies and reports during the Copenhagen Document Festival – CPH: Dox. There he showed showing the new and supplemented version of « antidote », which was also able to watch the viewers of Sofia Film Fest.

She recounts that at the beginning the film was directed to the work of Belingkat and they met with Hristo Grozev, who was not so much threat at the time. « But then things have evolved and the project has become a movie about his journey, » the director said in Copenhagen, quoting Varatti.

« He was ready to give us all the information and I believe that we were very excited to make this documentary. As for the other participants, they were somehow related to Hristo’s investigations, so when we had a clear vision for the movie, we contacted them, fortunately, » explains Vivien Jones.

During the event in Copenhagen Grozev, they said they wanted to contribute to understanding who are bad and who are the good guys, but added that the last four months things have changed because « the bad are now considered welcome in the US » and it becomes no less dangerous there.

In addition to his own safety, the journalist also mentions all those Russians who emigrated to the US, journalists or scientists against Putin who are now money, visas and risk being sent back to Russia. Grozev also says that he has the support of his family and they encourage him not to give up his investigations and that the price of the truth to be disclosed is worth it.

« We live in horrific times, suddenly the dicators rise and are ready to crush anyone who resists their messages. Of course, the people in the movie – Hristo, as well as Eugene Kara -Murza and the scientist who reports these crimes, have bet on a map, so that they can tell the truth, »

According to her, the two poles between dictatorship and democracy are increasingly exacerbated and it is not known what will happen, especially with freedom of speech.

The film is not yet distributed in the United States, but they are working to make it happen, although the political landscape may prevent them. « But it is amazing that in Europe there is a great interest in the film, given the fact that we are close to the war, to Putin and Russia, » Jones says.

Regarding that many young people are oriented towards far -right parties, the producer comments that he is quite alarmed because they are influenced by everything they see on social networks and is not sure that their movie will reach them because they live in another media environment.

« The main problem is that they reach information that is not from reliable sources, the facts are not checked, and this is not true journalism. We must definitely teach the young to distinguish the good from the bad sources of information, but even if it sounds simple, it is a very difficult task because they live in their own balloons on social networks.

However, can an antidote be found? « At the moment, things look pretty grim and it would be very nice to have an antidote, but I think we should continue to fight inside our communities against the problem of misinformation. Of course, it is extremely complicated and it is very easy for a person to feel powerless given geopolitical events at the moment, » she replies.

He says she is extremely inspired by the characters in their movie – Hristo Grozev, Evgeniy and Vladimir Kara -Murza because they gave them hope. « I think there is no way to achieve something without hope, so we have to keep it alive and fight for it, » adds the producer of « antidote » to the final.
