The procedure performed in Kaunas clinics helped to control the liver tumor

According to her, an extremely innovative treatment method for a three -year -old boy is embolization of melting melting particles.

It is a minimally invasive medical procedure that closes the blood vessels to stop blood circulation in a certain area of the body.

This procedure is applied in the event of the exhausting standard treatments.

The team of Kaunas Clinic Interventional Radiology, led by physician Andrius Pranculis, performed a procedure in which special substances were injected into the tumor – melting particles saturated with chemotherapy.

« These particles are briefly blocking the tumor blood circulation and allow the drug to act on the tumor cells and then naturally dissolve without damaging the surrounding healthy liver tissue, » Francis said.

« Studies have shown that the tumor has begun the process of necrosis and the cancer marker has declined to normal. With this in mind, another procedure is planned to be performed in the near future – this time on the left side of the liver, » the radiologist said.

This is the first case in Europe when the above method is applied to the child.
