The Pro -European Candidate came forward before the run -off for president in Romania
Three days before the second round of the Romanian presidential election, the independent candidate and current mayor of Bucharest Nikushor Dan have a four -percent lead in front of his opponent from the nationalist Alliance for Romanians, George Simion. This shows a new survey by IRSOP, quoted by the Adeverul newspaper.
According to the survey, 52% of the respondents preferred Nikushor Dan, and 48% chose George Simion. IRSOP states that the options are calculated based on the total number of people who are likely to vote, with the expected turnout being over 60%.

The data also shows that 51% would like Romania’s management with Nikushor Dan as president and Ilie Bolozhan as prime minister, and 42% choose the tandem George Simion-Kalin George. Seven percent do not know or have indicated one possibility.
The survey, funded by the IRSOP market research company, was conducted between 10 and 13 May 2025 among 951 participants interviewed by telephone. The statistical error limit is ± 3.2 percent at 95% of authenticity level.

In the first round of the Romanian presidential election on May 4, George Simion, the candidate of the Nationalist Party « Alliance for the Unification of Romanians », won 40.96% of the vote. Second place was the independent candidate and current mayor of Bucharest Nikushor Dan with 20.99%.
A study by the Atlatel sociological agency, published earlier this week, showed an equal result between Simion and Dan. Previous studies have given Simion’s lead.

Within the framework of his visit to Brussels, George Simion has meetings with various MEPs from the conservative and far right, including the Bulgarian MEP Ivaylo Valchev of ITN, who is a member of the Bureau of the Parliamentary Group of European Conservatives and Reformists.
