The Prime Minister calls for a free and independent Latvia / day at the National Day
At a press conference after a meeting with President Edgar Rinkēvičs, the prime minister thanked all those heads of government and state, the public, journalists who have worked for these 35 years to celebrate Latvia’s restoration.
« Perhaps we think we are facing many challenges, but we can only imagine what bold decisions had to be made by people in the 1990s, what life and challenges for society were at that time, but together we believed in free Latvia, » the prime minister said.
She emphasized that we have free Latvia, we are in the European Union and NATO. Siliņa thanked everyone who has been in favor of important values for Latvia in 35 years. Including Latvian, which is still on the government, the Prime Minister said.
« For all of us, the anniversary of the restoration of Latvia’s independence is both remembering and the holiday time. We need to evaluate what we have at the moment – a free and independent country, no matter what our neighbors are. They are aggressive and we have to count on it, so it is important to strengthen our security, » the Prime Minister said.
