The previous voting in the Saeima elections will also take place in all districts; From 2030 parties will require more members / day to start
Previously, candidate lists could be submitted in parliamentary elections if at least 500 members were registered in the party or party. The condition of a larger number of members will apply to the Saeima elections in 2030.
The amendments also stipulate that pre -election programs for parties and party associations will have to be designed so that the text does not exceed 10,000 characters. Until now, in the Saeima elections, the volume of this program should not exceed 4,000 signs.
In the future, candidate lists will be possible to submit a longer period of time for the Saeima elections – from 105 days before the elections, but not later than 90 days before the election day. This will allow more efficient organization of election preparations, including procurement procedures, according to parliament. So far, the candidate lists could be submitted 80 days before the elections.
Taking into account the candidate list for a longer period of time, the changes stipulate that the Central Election Commission will have to determine in proportion to the number of voters in each constituency in each constituency five months before the election day.
The amount of the security deposit to be paid by submitting a list of candidates has also been revised. Instead of the current 1,400 euros, the security will have to be paid at 11 minimum monthly salaries (currently € 8,140). In order to avoid the rapid rise in the amount of security deposits, the security deposit is set at six minimum monthly salaries by next year’s Saeima elections.
In order to harmonize the different elections, it has been clarified that the Saeima elections will also be open to voters from 8am to 8pm. So far, the elections started at 7 in the morning.
The amendments also stipulate that in the previous voting, as in local elections, it will be possible to transfer vote in all polling stations in Latvia from Monday to Friday before the election day. So far, the vote could only be cast in separate constituencies and only on Monday, Thursday and Friday.
Given that the ballot papers are planned to be used in the counting of the votes, the changes provide for the introduction of a common « on » and « against » markings instead of the plus and minus.
The amendments also provide for the polling station commissions to organize an off -road voting, as well as a simpler application for postal voting – it will be possible to use the public administration service portal « www.latvija.gov.lv ».
