The Constitutional Court in December decided last year to hold a preparatory session on the debate on initiatives to assess the constitutionality and legality of the Law on the Use of Languages. The session was scheduled for March 20, but was postponed due to an accident at the Pulse disco in Kocani and should be scheduled further.

According to Constitutional Court President Darko Kostadinovski, at a briefing with journalists, at the preparatory session, which will be broadcast live, Martin Kuyer, Vice President of the Venice Commission and the Dutch Supreme Judge, who will explain to the friendly, the friend And the use of minority languages, which will explain the practice of the ECtHR in similar cases and present European standards for the use of languages.

The president added that only material law will be discussed at the session, as the formal part of the constitution is already absorbed. It is a decree on the Law on Languages ​​for which a preparatory session has already been held in 2021.

The case on the Law on Languages ​​is made up of 13 initiatives from different citizens, political parties and associations, formed in 2019, and became current autumn after the remarks of the Venice Commission. The Constitutional Court may dismiss the initiatives, decide to initiate a law on the law in its entirety or just for parts of it, to temporarily halt its application while making a final decision, or to send it to parliament.

The submitted initiatives to challenge the provisions of the Law on the Use of Languages ​​are the parties VMRO-DPMNE and Levica, the Association « World Macedonian Congress », Solza Grcheva, Tanja Karakamisheva Jovanovska, Jove Kekenovski, Vasko Lazevski, Ivana Mitevska, Ivana. After holding the preparatory session, Judge Rapporteur has six months to prepare a report on the case.
