The President has rejected the requests / day of 13 pardon convicts of convicted persons
So far, the President has pardoned 14 persons and has examined the requests of the pardon of 213 persons.
The request for pardon may be submitted after the court’s judgment came into force, except when a person has been sentenced to a serious or particularly serious crime with a sentence of custodial.
In cases where a person has been convicted of committing a serious crime, a request for pardon may be submitted if at least half of the sentence sentenced to a custodial sentence is actually served.
Conversely, when a person has been convicted of a particularly serious crime, a request for pardon can be submitted if at least two -thirds of the sentence sentenced to a custodial sentence are actually served. Conversely, if a life imprisonment is sentenced, the person must endure at least 20 years from the penalty of custodial prison before submitting the request.
Former President Egils Levits reviewed 409 requests from pardon and supported by 21, while former President Raimonds Vējonis examined 697 pardon requests and supported 22. The most pardoned requests were considered by Guntis Ulmanis, who reviewed the request of 3,391 mercy.
