Slovak Post plans to test the autonomous vehicle for delivery of shipments in the pedestrian zone in the coming months Bratislava. According to the General Director of the post of Vladislav Kupka, autonomous vehicles are to improve delivery for short distances.

On this pilot project, called the Elevate initiative, the post office signed a memorandum of understanding with the Slovak Academy of Sciences, with the capital Bratislava AS AS Technology Partner- Diusai. Behind her is the well -known financier Patrik Tkáč, founder of the J&T financial group.

The study will pay partially Tkáč

The TwinsWheel autonomous robotic vehicle is made in Toulouse, France and the post office will pay 28,000 euros for its rent for eight months. It should appear in the streets of Bratislava from July.

« We were inspired in Slovenia, where the post office also uses this vehicle, » explains Kupka.

The first step of the initiative partners will be to carry out a feasibility study to use autonomous mobility. This should determine what legislative and technological obstacles must be overcome so that autonomous delivery cars can be safely tested and then lowered into live operation.

Later, the testing of autonomous vehicles in real road traffic should also be followed.

Diusai plans to co-finance the testing and the development of a study by EUR 100,000. « We have a budget for such a initiative and the amount is not limited, » Tkáč told the index.

When asked why as a partner post office chose this starting company, which was created only last March, the director of the Slovak Post Vladislav Kupka did not directly respond. Something was indicated by the Minister of Transport Jozef Ráž, who mentioned that with Patrik Tkáč there are neighbors in Devín and knows his enthusiasm for technology and artificial intelligence.

According to Tkáč Duisai, it is a young company, but has big plans. « We are going to change the world with this company and we are also developing an algorithm for self -driving cars, » he adds.

The founder of Diusai claims that he is obsessed with technology and the use of artificial intelligence in practice, so he tried to combine multiple players to test this technology. « I firmly believe that autonomous cars will drive in Downtown in the future and fly drones, » he adds.

Amazon and Estonians are already delivering

Autonomous mail delivery is already being tested in the world. These include autonomous cars, robots or drones. They replace couriers.

For example drones Amazon is used within 30 minutes to deliver small distances within 30 minutes. Robots from an Estonian company Starship Technologies They deliver packages and food in some cities in Europe and the US.
